About China - SSE
The Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) is the world's third-largest stock exchange by market capitalization and the largest in mainland China. Founded in 1990, SSE lists over 2,000 companies with combined market cap exceeding ¥50 trillion ($7 trillion). The exchange trades A-shares (domestic, RMB-denominated) and B-shares (foreign currency). Key indices include the SSE Composite Index (all listed stocks) and SSE 50 (top 50 blue chips). Major listings include Kweichow Moutai, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), PetroChina, and Bank of China. SSE operates with a lunch break from 11:30 to 13:00 CST. The exchange is accessible to foreign investors through the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect program launched in 2014.
